Welcome
to CardExpo West Africa...
.
The 2007 edition of Card Expo West Africa, a hybrid event, comprising a three-day conference and exhibition, held from July 9 to 11, 2007 at the Civic Centre, Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos. The theme of this year’s event was, ‘Bottom of the Pyramid: Reaching the Mass Market.’ The exhibition turned out to be a huge success, judging by the number of companies and financial institutions which participated and the large number of people who visited the exhibition stands.
This report, however limits itself to the deliberations at the conference, especially the last two days, where technical papers, interspersed with limited amounts of marketing materials were presented.
The conference was well attended. It drew its participation from a cross-section of stakeholders and operators in the emerging smart card market in Nigeria, already the second largest in sub-Saharan Africa. A carefully selected blend of foreign and local speakers with hands-on experience and technical depth in the card business globally and locally addressed the conference.
The report below attempts to capture and summarize the essence of the keys issues and technical depth of the presentations and the view points and expectations that were of paramount concern to the participants as expressed at the interactive sessions that followed the formal presentations.
